Lao Zi (Lao Tzu)
Lao Zi is the greatest Daoist philosopher and his “Dao De Jing” is well refined. His combined thoughts of Daoism belong to the library of practical Daoist documents.

His Daoist philosophy had nothing to do with theology or religion when it first appeared. It was purely for guiding or helping those who followed Daoism in their daily life. Especially during the Western Han Dynasty, even the ruler Emperor adopted Daoism as a major guidance for ruling his Empire. Lao Zi or Lao Dan was born in the Chen State and served as the librarian for King Zou. Lao Zi also had some students such as Wen Zi Juan Zi, Guan Yin Zi, Yang Zhu and even another great philosopher, Kong Zi.

Lao Zi's retreat into seclusion resulted in his achievements and history to be concealed from the rest of the world. His seclusion was most significant of Daoist behavior.
